Chairman’s Summer Event
On Wednesday 19th June 2024, Herefordshire Agricultural Club were kindly hosted by Chairman Angus Davison (2023-2024) and his family, as well as the Haygrove team.
We were treated to a sample of the berries and cherries grown at Haygrove Ledbury and given an inspiring tour of the farm, shown the developments of Haygrove tunnels and serenaded by South African team members as an insight for the forthcoming South African tour.
It was a wonderful evening and we are all very grateful to Angus for hosting us and treating us to his Herefordshire Sixteen Ridges wine and Once Upon a Tree Cider.
Angus had some words for members following his final event as Chairman
It has been a pleasure and privilege being HAC Chairman. I set out to enjoy it and have! I hope too to have added something of value in international viewpoint and perhaps the direction of our club culture.
At the event we had good feedback for the Herefordshire Sixteen Ridges wine and Once Upon a Tree cider. Never to miss an opportunity if you would like to order some here is the link

Farming Minister Mark Spencer said: “The Royal Agricultural Societies’ award ceremony celebrates
the achievements of those who make our British farming industry so special and I want to
congratulate all of today’s recipients.

committed to making a difference, to driving forward the profession, and producing the fantastic
British produce enjoyed both at home and around the world.”

OUR TREASURER STEVEN DEAKINS
Sadly, as many of you may know by now, Steven passed away on Thursday 1st April following a spell in hospital. Steven has been a much valued Club member of many years, succeeding Christopher Compton as Club treasurer. This was a post he enjoyed always taking in good spirit the leg pulling he often received as keeper of the Club’s purse. As one of the club’s only four Life Members his quick wit and abundance of humour was a trademark enjoyed by many. A very successful farmer and businessman, always great company whether at Club meetings, foreign visits or on the shooting field.
Needless to say he will be greatly missed by fellow members, his many friends and above all by Lynne and his wonderful family to whom we send our thoughts and heartfelt condolences.
TOM NELLIST RETIREMENT SPEECH – SEPTEMBER 2021
Tom delights club members and guests with his tales, adventures and highlights of his term in office at a wonderful Chairman’s Dinner kindly hosted by outgoing Chair Jo Hilditch at the Whittern Lyonshall. Tuesday 21st September 2021. Click here to read Tom’s fond memories in full.
THE CLUB SAYS “THANK YOU” TO TOM – SEPTEMBER 2020
Sadly with further government restrictions being put in place and rising levels of C-19 we have decided that we cannot proceed with any of our winter dinners until after Christmas at the earliest. It was agreed that Richard Williams would postpone his year as chairman until 2021/2022. Jo Hilditch will kindly stay on as chairman until the next social event and AGM can be held. She will now hold both the record as the Club’s first lady chair and its longest serving chair. It is hoped that we will be able to gather socially either in early spring or summer of 2021. The date provisionally reserved for our AGM on Thursday 29th October 2020 via Zoom is now cancelled.
As we had not had the opportunity to get together to thank Tom for his years of dedicated commitment, we wanted to give him at least part of his present as our appreciation of years committed to the Ag Club. The committee had decided to use our funds available and the gift was a handmade leather bag with Tom’s initials, made by Matt Fothergill who lives in North Herefordshire and works out of Ludlow. More to come when we do all finally meet”
TOM NELLIST HANDSOVER TO GINA QUAN – JULY 2020
After 25 years a member and 21 as Secretary, Tom Nellist finally hands over the valuable files and Minute Book to Gina Quan. Social distancing adhered to! We are all grateful to Tom for his tremendous work and input. The Ag Club will not be the same without his careful guidance and intelligent approach to organisation. Welcoming Gina we know she has big shoes to fill, but with great experience in Herefordshire farming we know she will be a great replacement.
